Why Home Help Community Foundation Began

The idea was to build a simpler, more coordinated way for people to identify available resources and connect directly with organizations that may be able to help. It was also designed to support the professionals and community members who regularly encounter people in need but may not know where to send them.

From the beginning, the goal has been bigger than creating another directory. Home Help is about building stronger connections between people, services, and communities. It is about reducing confusion, improving access, and making it easier for organizations to work together.

Home Help Community Foundation was established to carry that mission into communities. The Foundation works to expand access to essential resources, develop community partnerships, support participating service providers, educate the public, and help bring innovative solutions to communities that may not have the funding or infrastructure to adopt them on their own.

We believe connecting someone to help should not be limited to social workers or service professionals. It is something an entire community can take part in.

A teacher may recognize that a family needs food assistance. A pastor may meet someone who needs shelter. A healthcare worker may encounter a patient facing housing instability. A neighbor, employer, first responder, volunteer, or local business owner may simply meet someone who does not know where to begin.

Home Help gives people a place to begin.

Our vision is a future where individuals can find help more easily, organizations can collaborate more effectively, and communities can better understand and respond to the needs around them.

This work begins with connection: connecting people to resources, organizations to one another, and communities to better ways of helping.

Home Help began with a simple but troubling realization: in many communities, help exists, but finding it can be unnecessarily difficult.

People facing housing instability, food insecurity, health concerns, domestic violence, transportation barriers, or other urgent needs are often expected to navigate a complicated network of organizations and programs while already under tremendous stress. Information may be outdated. Eligibility requirements may be unclear. One organization may not know what another provides or whether it currently has the capacity to help. A person can spend hours making calls, repeating their story, and being redirected from one place to another without ever reaching the right resource.

The problem is not a lack of caring people or committed organizations. Communities are filled with nonprofits, healthcare providers, schools, faith organizations, government agencies, first responders, case managers, and volunteers working every day to help others.

The problem is that these efforts are often disconnected.

Home Help was created by an Oklahoma family that had seen the same problem from different perspectives: people often need help, services often exist, but the path connecting the two is unnecessarily difficult. With experience spanning community service, local government, business, advocacy, and direct work with people and organizations, the family recognized that the challenge was not simply a shortage of resources. It was also a lack of clear, coordinated access to them.
